Honorary degrees are awarded upon recommendation by the President and approval by the governing body (now the Board of Trustees) to individuals who have achieved unusual distinction in academic pursuits, arts, professions, business, government, civic affairs, or in service to the University. The governing body has a committee to screen nominations and make recommendations to it concerning possible recipients. This collection contains reports and correspondence of the Honorary Degree Committee. Included are biographical information on nominees and lists of degree recipients (1892-1977).
